The authorities have however declined to comment on the fate of Alain Traore, a columnist with Omega Media, seized by masked gunmen in July 2024.

Dozens of journalists have fled into exile due to the mounting threats and fear of arrests and possible forced conscription into the army. A prominent journalist, Newton Ahmed Barry, has since April 1 been placed on a list of 32 individuals “wanted for association with a terrorist organization” by the Burkinabe authorities.

During the AJB Congress, the officials also cited the disappearances of three other journalists, Bienvenue Apiou, James Yazid Dembele and Mamadou Ali.

————————————————

CAJ Secretariat: Epren Center, Buruburu, Mumias Road, Nairobi, Kenya

For more information, contact: oloojanak@gmail.com, cajournalists@gmail.com

Secretary’s phone: +254 786 396 945; President’s phone: +234 803 776 2492

———————————————-

COMMUNIQUE DE PRESSE

Nairobi, Kenya : Avril 8, 2025
